Thanks BT for the heads up.

Just in Case someone missed this.

Logic Pro 9.0.1 Update

This update improves overall stability, provides numerous fixes and enhancements, and is recommended for all users of Logic Pro 9.

Some issues addressed include (but are not limited to):

* Replace mode now functions as expected when Punch Recording.
* Trimming a region now behaves correctly for regions whose first transient is quantized.
* Using "Paste at Original Position" in the Arrange window now works as expected.
* Using track import Replace to channel strip used on multiple tracks in the Arrange window now works as expected.
* Correct automation values are now maintained when one region is moved over another with the "Move Automation with Regions" option.
* Addresses an issue where the Save button on a Logic/Mackie Control stays lit when pressed with some projects.
* The Reassign Track shortcut menu now correctly displays the currently assigned channel strip object.
* Text Only mode for the Toolbar now remains in effect when an option is clicked on the Toolbar.
* MIDI commands can now be assigned to key commands with fixed assignments.
* Clicking solo on a channel strip no longer selects the channel strip.
* Fixes an issue where Logic would quit unexpectedly if the grid value in the Hyper Edit Convert Event definition dialog was changed.
* MIDI regions now play at the correct tempo when scrubbed with the Solo tool.
* Current project Mixer settings are now correctly maintained when importing tracks with "Send all fader values" enabled.
* EXS24 now correctly displays all parameters in Editor view for instruments created in Logic 8.
* Logic no longer quits unexpectedly in recording situations where both a MIDI and audio track are record enabled and the MIDI track is not selected.

Enhancements implemented include:

* It is now possible to measure and provide latency compensation for an external signal chain that is routed via the I/O plug-in.
* You can now snap align Flex Markers to MIDI notes within other tracks in the Arrange window.
* The Automap feature for Novation MIDI controllers now functions when using the Logic Studio plug-ins.
* Apogee's UV-22 dithering algorithm now an option when bouncing audio files.

We're putting this on the machine tonight, we haven't yet jumped from 8.

If this thing ruins my tracking session tonight, y'all got some 'splainin to do.

Adam says it "works better" but I don't believe him.

Will report back with audio.

Hey Sean

How did it go?

did mine 2 weeks ago no problems at all.

The New UV-22 Dither option is Cool & the New I/O Plug Rocks!

Great Upgrade.

Now if apple could upgrade the mixer so we could re-organize tracks, That would be something!

I'm going to guess Sean had absolutely no problems last night.

Unless I am mistaken and he blew up the studio while slaying riffs.

One thing about the Mixer page [you may already know this]

When my tracks start getting messy, I just hit the Arrange button and it moves them all back to the order my sequencer or Arrange page warrants them. I had trouble with this as well, when all my tracks keep moving, and then I figured it out. Maybe this helps. I dunno.

Twice, Logic freaked out and stopped recording on me. "Error; Disk Too Slow" bullkaka. This happened to me once on 8, ever...

3 audio tracks playing back, 7 audio tracks recording.

It would replace the last 5 seconds of what I recorded with pink noise at 10,000dB.

Is this Logic's fault, or should we douche this particular disk (it HAS been a while)?

Either way, the session turned into rehearsal really fast and this had nothing to do with the computer...

I think we've got a FAT disk that needs to lose some weight.

DOUCHE!!!!!!!! We need to make that drive feel different.

The Drive you were using is our Video Drive, meaning, we've used it to stripe large amounts of high res audio using Logic, multiple times. I believe it is approaching full capacity.

Either way, the session turned into rehearsal really fast and this had nothing to do with the computer...

Well I guessed wrong them. DOH! I'll investigate further.

I had this problem with Logic 8 all the time, especially when doing punch ins.

This makes for not happy musicians listening back on headphones.

the New I/O Plug Rocks!

Is this for h/w implementation? On my last gig, the only reason we didn't use Logic 8 Pro was because of the hassles I read about, when it comes to latency with h/w. Instead we used CB5 which proceeded to corn hole the niblets out of me with it's fucked up, Beta like behavior, i.e. pops and cliks when using a ridiculously large buffer on a powerful MP Quad. Oh, I use CB4 up here with no real probs.

If 9 solves this, it might make the decision to try Logic again easier - I really have had a hard time slipstreaming into Logic after so many years on Cubendo.

Anyone wanna chime in re h/w inserts in logic 9? Does it work well? Are there a bunch of hoops to jump to make it work.it would be great if ut was as easy as Cubendo

I'll jump in here and say that though I haven't been using it extensively yet, that is the purpose of the addition, to address latency issues when using an I/O plugin, and it does so simply. Open an instance of the plugin and you get a sample offset slider, right there in front of you. I would like to presume it works well, but time will tell.

Thanks, Reese. Having never had to manually adjust the offset before, how does this work? Like how do you know how many samples you're off from the original before you're sending to the h/w? Sorry is this is a stupid question, but I've only used Cubase where it pings and adjusts accordingly, automatically.

Just ran Software Update and am currently downloading 9.02:

This update improves overall stability and provides numerous fixes and enhancements.

Issues addressed include:

•Flex Markers can align & snap to MIDI notes
•Performing a punch-in recording with Replace Mode now behaves correctly
•The I/O plug-in adds an option for latency measurement
•TDM plug-ins now behave as expected. (Only affects users with Pro Tools HD audio hardware.)

The update is recommended for all users of Logic Pro 9.

So hopefully that clears that up.

Also, the second point is likely the answer to the problems Sean has been having when punching in.

Since you guys are all Logic believers, I'll hit you with a quick opinion question. I'm moving from Logic Express 7 and my G4 Powerbook up to Logic 9 soon, and I'm on the fence about what new Computer to get. I like to keep my workflow streamlined and mostly "in the box". I have access to a super duper gear studio for the really heavy lifting, ( Crane, Toft, Manley etc. ) and mostly write and do cheap midi/ live sweatened commercial music at home. The least amount of tech between me and the idea I'm working on the better. So I'm looking at something like-

SM7 always up for whatever-
RNC always up for whatever-
Apogee Ensemble-
Logic 9-

My target budget for the Computer/ software is the 2,500 range.

Computer X--- ( I've been using the laptop , but it almost never leaves the house, so for the added versatility I'd switch to a tower.

Thoughts?

*Down the road maybe add some Pre's to the chain to cut live drums for loops with more inputs.
