Well, where do you start is a pretty vast question.

Maybe you can give us some more info about yourself? That might help us, to help you.

A great quote, [and there are many great quotes that apply] that helped me along the way, to put things into helpful perspective.

"Its not about WHO YOU KNOW, or WHAT YOU KNOW, Its about, WHO KNOWS WHAT YOU KNOW".....

Learn as much as you can, wherever you can. Read, study, Practice. Educate Yourself on the Fundamentals. Start @ the Bottom, and build your skill set. Don't start a studio without the "WHO KNOWS WHAT YOU KNOW part.....

you have a computer so buy a cheap interface with pres. some sm57's and a cheap vocal mic and see if you like it. then spend as much time reading and asking experienced engineers questions. when you think you want to move into better mics, pres and things try try try before you buy. you'll soon develop a preference and build a studio around that idea

Well I really love music that has instruments that arent used alot in rock and rap it keeps my interest for example, drums and guitar in rap even rock singers in rap, or violins (and other stringed instruments) in rock. Our main goal is to start off just rapping and making great beats to go along with it. Along with that information what should i start with when it comes to equipment? and what else should i know that you think i should know at this moment in my studio quest?

Beats? Any DAW software will supply you with a great sampling and synth foundation for you to exploit so get Logic, or Cubase, or Reaper, or Pro Tools, or whatever.

None of the native software specimens are actually better than the other, although the debate is still raging on the internet in all fashions. This is for the bare fact that the fundamentals of music production never change, just the workflow. So, the answer is to get DAW software that works with your thought process. However, I personally wouldn't get Pro Tools LE for the mere reason that it doesn't have automatic delay compensation, but hey, that's just me.

Rapping? As suggested, a decent vocal microphone is a good start, with at least a recording interface and a mic preamp.

You don't need a lot of gear for this sort of venture so take Pauly's advice. If you've got a computer, there are a bazillion firewire one-stop interfaces out there that'll get the job done fine. Most of them have mic preamps built in and will serve you fine, while you're finding your feet at least.

If you don't have a computer, well, that makes it more difficult.

Thereafter you can decide how much further you want to take it. That's why I suggest not taking a huge plunge and spending lots of money on gear you won't need or grow out of very quickly. You may find you're terrible at it.

Hey, it happens.

Cheers :)

Well, if you wanna be a millionaire, start with 4 milion and build a recording studio...

On a more serious note, this site might be a useful ressource for some basic recording rigs. I think theress even a few electronic type studios hidden in the list somewhere.

Hope this helps!
