This one kid I went to school is going to a special school in Florida for audio eng. he said something about digi 003 racks having "voice" problems between the 003 rack to software, and he was learning about it in school, I have never herd of this term in my life. If this is a common problem between PT LE and a digi003 could someone elaborate on this subject? and if it occurs in other places because I did look at this particular school and what they're teaching is a bunch of :poo: after hearing this, thanks!

I've had a 002Rack since they came out. Also a degree in audio production. I don't know of "voice" problems between the interface and software. "Voicing" as I understand it is the particular tone or sound qualities a unit has... so "voicing" problems of a data stream don't make a whole lot of sense to me. Maybe one of the more seasoned folks understands this better.

"Voices" are needed in PT LE and HD for a number of specific things.
HD1 Card gives the system 96 voices. You need one "voice" per track.
LE and HD systems are very different from one another.
I have no idea what he's talking about. Any chance of getting him to explain it a bit more?

I dunno about cat's ass, I'd maybe say just plain ass. ;)
Cheers,

Yes, very different in about 9025 ways, 9000 of which are $;)
And I wouldn't worry too much about the "proprietary" info this cat thinks you wouldn't understand. it sounds like perhaps he's trying to legitimize his 6 figure student loan. no offense to anyone who's gone to this special school in florida, as the reality is the schooling and education ( no matter where, and what field) is what you make of it. In the end you gotta use your ears, right?

This dude is a tool. If you, a fellow engineer, would not "get" the mix, how would he expect the average listener to get it?

No doubt.
Just a thought; Before we go bashing someone who can't represent themselves here, [even though they probably deserve it] lets just ask cookseyeng, what his real question, really is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That Audition is an excellent piece of software. I love its predecessor Cool Edit Pro and I still use it all the time. Good on ya! :)
Cheers,

EXACTLY... and if your not a dick to other people, your ascent to asst. engineer, or head engineer will be even faster. Remember: it's 90% troubleshooting, 90% customer relations (or artist relations) and 20% skill/ technique, and 800% ears. Yeah, I know that's 1000%, but that's what I like to give to my sessions.
still not sure what exactly the ? was, but it seems like you were handed some bologna to boost someone elses ego. I wonder why someone like say, Bruce Swedien would give away all his secrets, and not worry about folks not getting it? Maybe because his real secret was great artists, songs, and arrangements. Oh yeah, and not being a dick..
By the way, we have an intern at our studio from the special school in FLA., and he is quite good, so again, it's all in what you make of it.

Right. Keep your eyez on the prize

Customer Relations is the red chunk on the graph.
It's becasue of all the blood.

Which is why I asked for the real question.

Wait, who's Bruce Swedien? Just kidding. I had a funny email conversation with his pal Art Noxon not to long ago. He was perplexed about Certain Ribbon Microphones using "Pressure Gradient" principle, and explained that way on our web site. He seemed like a guy who was from the old school and knew a thing or two about the subject of acoustics, so I made a resilient attempt to give him my limited audio college professor/book knowledge about "Pressure Gradient" Microphones, as it applies to any and all transducers. I think he was happy I didn't reply with an attitude for questioning our web site, and engaging him so nicely. I have yet to hear back from him, as the last I heard he was on a mission to seek out Wes Dooley to find the REAL answer. I don't know how this story applies to the OP's one.

I hesitate to contribute to this since I attended a competitor to the school in FLA, and don't really want to debate it, but, I think that Mixwell is the only one that really addressed the issue. As I understand the original question, the issue probably is one of the difference of assignable and usable voices between LE and HD, which would account for his complaint about the 003: it's true that the 003 is not usable with HD, which means it has fewer voices. Sorry to detract from a fulfilling argument.

I suggest you take your mouse, scroll wheel and keyboard over to the D.U.C. (http://duc.digidesign.com/)
Where they are educated, and can help educate you, on what your fellow engin runner is blowing smoke about.

So, did Digi actually get rid of the input monitoring button on the track for LE? Or, I am just blind?

Did they ever have one for LE? I'm not sure they did..

On LE there is a global Auto Input Monitor/Input Only Monitor setting in one of the menus. Probably a hotkey for it, too.

Option K is the quick key for Mac. After doing more research, You're right Tomasz. I guess I was just spoiled using HD for so long.
