I would love to cut a hole in that put it in the microwave and...........

Nevermind that would hurt to much. And I don't want to fuck up this mic.

i've been down in the dumps lately and these pictures really do cheer me up. i've got the C700 silhouette and the phallic one and the C715 from the josephson site. keep it up!

Me? I just take pictures. :p My audio interests lie primarily in sound fx/sound design and remote classical recording when I can find people to record (which is almost never, because I don't try very hard or really at all). I will not borrow a rare $4K mic to record fart noises, nor will I bring it on the subway.

Capturing all the subtle nuances of fart noises may necessitate this though, Dan. I mean, a 57 can't do it all, but just remember to use the poop filter, I mean pop filter.. :D

Let's talk about the camera and the lens used to take these killer photos.:D

Let's talk about the camera and the lens used to take these killer photos.:D

Canon Digital Rebel XT w/ the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. It's seriously booty. The lens is soft, it's manual focus is very sensitive (i.e. a little movement goes a LONG way) and has a ton of play in it. The camera sensor is fairly noisy and the viewfinder is small, dim, and crooked. I used my wife's Nikon D200 this weekend and the difference was just silly.

But the plan is to dump this and one of our video camera/hdd rigs and replace it with an EOS 7D, a couple fast prime lenses and hopefully an ultrawide zoom. :D Actually, if I can get away with shooting a video on just one camera, I'd like to sell our second video camera and put the money towards more/better lenses for the 7D. Whether or not just 1 camera is feasible remains to be seen.

FYI: I have no problem whatsoever hijacking this thread to talk about camera stuff (after all, I started the thread and I am the admin, so I can do that sort of thing :p), but I may move it to the Lounge if it goes that way.

Bleen,

The C720 or the Camera? They're both hi-res picture takers!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan, I have a 7D. You're right, you want one. ;) Keep in mind, though, that video file size is limited to 4GB per clip... at 1080, that's 12 minutes. Also, not surprising given the 7D has the most pixel-dense sensor in Canon's lineup, there is some image noise up around 1600 ISO. Good noise reduction, such as Adobe Lightroom, can take care of that, though.

But... it's fast and captures sick detail!

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I'm not sure why they can't just span clips like everything else out there, but to be honest I'm trying to get away from the habit of just running the camera for 4 hours straight and chopping up whatever I get. I won't know for sure until I get it, but I think I can live w/ 12 minutes at a shot.

Also, not surprising given the 7D has the most pixel-dense sensor in Canon's lineup, there is some image noise up around 1600 ISO.

That is something that concerned me a bit - it's going to be way better than what we currently have, but by all accounts, the 5DmkII is at least a stop better in the noise dept. It's also got a full-frame sensor which would make it easier to get good ultra-wide-angle lenses.

The big drawbacks for the 5d are the extra $900 and the fact that it doesn't do 720p. These videos are going to be for the web, so needing full 1080 hd is going to be unlikely, but I'd like something better than SD. I also don't need the razor-thin DOF that seems to be the current fad with some of these indie guys. Somebody ought to tell them that just because you CAN cram a couple dozen focus pulls into a 4 minute film, doesn't mean you SHOULD. (that said, I will probably do the same thing the first chance I get :p)

Thoughts?

Good noise reduction, such as Adobe Lightroom, can take care of that, though.

Not for video. :-b

Microtech Gefell UM75

I was trying to use/highlight the geometry of the shockmount, but it's a lot harder than I thought to get that thing looking perfectly symmetrical in the shot. This shockmount isn't perfectly symmetrical anyways, but even if it were, all of the elastic has to be tensioned evenly and with 12 contact points, that's a challenge.

The 5DII's low light performance is pretty fabulous. I ultimately went 7D for the speed, metering and AF. I haven't used video mode much, but I have yet to be impressed by it. Could be operator error.

Regarding ultra-wide lenses, the 7D is compatible with the EF-S stuff. The EF-S 10-22 is great! Shot this with that lens and a 20D:

No photos yet posted online from the 7D.

I'm preparing to upgrade from my cheap Olympus DSLR to either the 7D or 5D - $-wise, I think it's going to be the 7D, but either is going to be worlds better than my current camera so I don't think I'll be going wrong either way.

Sandy - the C720 really captured the "wetness" and "excretory" motions of the flagellating source material.

That's ok Sandy - because the C720's head basket helps prevent "plosive" wind blasts.

No, I threw caution to the wind and just let it rattle.

The funniest thing for me was being in the vocal booth and watching Brady through the window, cracking up in total silence at each outburst. :)

Discovered afterward that the HPF was left enabled... darn it... so I might have to produce a sequel.... just to get the full bottom end response.
