That's great... now all we need is for them to start manufacturing the CS2000 / CS3000 again and life will be sweet. :)

This scenario is, unfortunately, about as likely as me becoming an astronaut. :(

Cheers,

So, how that going to work with the Icons, Isn't Euphonix's big thing the control surfaces right now? Or are they combining the two of them into one? The Iconix :D.......

Yes, putting the Two Sides of the Force together seems unstoppable. Avid/Digi has never opened their control code to anyone, [they will still probably never open up their coding to anyone]. Their higher end digital products seem to exist because they have the DEEPEST integration with THEIR Software, but the bottle neck is that it doesn't do this with anything other than PROTOOLS. Naturally and rightfully so, but in the time of this very expensive tactile surface, which sautés onions and peels potatoes ONLY WITH PROTOOLS, other companies [Such as Euphonix] have created leading technologies [EuCon] in the field, BECAUSE of the fact that they have opened up their protocol/code to the 3rd party developers who's products are meant to be used in accord with theirs. Don't forget Euphonix makes high channel Count SRC/ADA/FORMAT Boxes up the WAZOO, THAT ARE UNHOLY GOOD. If I see a Euphonix Converter rebadged as an Avid 192 I'm going to be happy.

AVID had better start making friends, as very, very, very soon, with these new 8 core, and soon, 16 core machines coming out, they (AVID) will have been part of an unplanned obsolescence(unplanned on their part), and honestly accel cards and stuff will be completely unnecessary and we'll all be the better for it IMO.. Industry standards are one thing, but dragging your feet and hoarding your codes, is bullshit and we all know it.. Sorry for the rant, but I'm not as optimistic that they'll do anything that will help us as recordists

I totally agree because I already find this to be the case. Native computer power is so good these days that you can run loads of tracks, loads of plugins, masses of edits... blah blah. The development of the computer has narrowed the gap to Digi/Avid's shame.

If they really want to help THIS recordist, they can start by releasing something that lies between Pro Tools LE and HD. The *minimal* increase in functionality/utility absolutely doesn't justify the enormous increase in price between the LE systems and the most basic HD (Hugely Disappointing) rig. Even an LE system with, say, 32 outputs would be awesome. Instead they increase the supposed value of the LE with loads of tracks we'll never use and plugins we don't want.

Oh but wait, then they'd never SELL any HD systems... what the @#$% am I thinking?!?!

One little thought affords me a reassuring grin... no matter how much $$$ one squirts at one's DAW... it ain't tape. :)

Cheers,

Sandy.. they have that already.. it's called logic pro... Shit, even 24 outputs would be great on LE.. But the higher track count and extra cartoons are worthless IMO, and contribute very little to effective recording/mixing, and slow music production way down.. If you 120 vocal tracks plus extra B.S. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.. PLEASE!.. I do not want to bother with that crap.. gimmee a REAL band that can lay it down in a couple of takes and needs say 32 tracks or less and I'll be happy. And with the state of affairs as they are, It's why I have not wasted my hard earned $ on an HD rig. And I agree completely about tape... I got into audio for that:AUDIO, not countless hours of sitting in on mixing sessions where I don't even hear any friggin' music while the tracks are being edited..What A time saver these tools are! Not!
Sorry I have gone O.T. and started bashing Dickidesign...

I'm a Pro Tools user... And I love Pro Tools. I refuse to abuse it, so it's a great tool for me. NO Beat Detective, FUCK NO Auto-Tune, and every edit I make, I listen to how it sounds before calling it good and moving on. (I don't do drum loops and the like.)

What I want to see for something like ProTools LE+ would be, say, 24-32 simultaneous I/O at 24/96 (yeah, I'll keep dreaming). Or S/MUX lightpipe. Or, a way to daisy-chain some of the 00xR boxes.

I've gotten some nice recordings off my 002R, but running out of inputs while recording a live band put a serious cramp in my style.

Yeah I always think that if people want to fill up lots of tracks just for the sake of it then there's something wrong with their music, you know? There was a studio in town here that missed out on a fairly nice album gig because they didn't have HD and the client's reasoning was "we're going to need at least thirty tracks for the drums".

My reasoning is this; if you really do NEED thirty or so tracks for your drums then either your drummer, your drumkit or both must REALLY REALLY SUCK! :)

Anyway I'm sure I am digressing monstrously.

120 vocal tracks? shshshs... is there such a thing? the most i've ever dealt with was 80 and i was kicking and screaming. the group of five singers basically wanted four part harmony trippled(!) wherein they sang each part unison plus obligatos and other frills. on top of that i had an orchestra. the leader of the group started name dropping he when he sensed my apprehension over the idea. he said that ted templeton and phil ramone used to do it.

i almost forgot after the session, which went pretty bad needless to say, he asked me to auto-tune their horrible unison ensemble. talk about a cluster fuck.

i know it's a digression but isn't this forum subtitled complete nonsense?

Me too... And I love it as well... you are to be commended for this!
I like to use it like a tape machine that has "bells and whistles".
