i'm taking the plunge, i get good sounds, i have all the gear i need, i have clients lined up and the one thing i don't have is a nice spot to make as much noise as i want so......

i am building a small control room and iso booth in an already established studio in brooklyn new york. the studio has a large live room and four iso booths. there is two other control rooms occupied by three other engineers/producers my room will be the third. all the rooms are tied into the live room and for now its a first come basis.

the neighborhood is an upcoming area in brooklyn and we just signed a 6 year lease.

i figured that as i went in the next coming months i'll post pictures of the developments so all you fine people can comment, heckle, and post whatever you like on the progress.

the raw space is approx. 12ft high, 12ft 6inchs wide and 24 feet long so the control room will be fairly small. using the L.W. Sepmeyer room ratio H.L.W. 1: 1.14: 1.39 the finished floating control room will end up being approx. 10 feet high by 11.4 feet wide and 13.9 feet long and the remainder of the space ends up being just large enough for a small iso booth just large enough for a small drum kit.:)

Sounds great just remember it's going to come in over budget take twice as much time as planed, but it will be worth it! Also remember for every outlet, or any type of cable run plan 2x the conduit just because now it's easy and cheaper than a year from now. Also find a lawyer or at least a paraleagle to lock over your lease before you get to deep into it . I have seen way to many guys get burned!
And can't wait to see pics!

Ah yes, the "golden ratios"... Congrats man.. Nice to see someone forging ahead, even in these uncertain times... Very cool "arrangement" you have with the existing studio. If you haven't yet done so, Check out Philip Newell's "Recording Studio Design". Fantasic.. His design philosophies can come off as a bit arrogant at times, however, he's got the resume to back it up... great sample plans, and his take on non- parallel walls, and control room design is enlightening and very interesting indeed, even if it is at odds with Grand-master Everest.. F. Alton, that is..
Be sure to photo the stages of construction for yourself and us . ha
good luck

And if you record a Band like "the Killer Dwarves", it will be a large room...
it's early and my sense of humor just got the better of me

sorry for the zero updates, things have been moving along at a very slow pace. being an old building i have had many issues to overcome and have had no time to keep this updated. things at this point are looking good and i have for the most part a strait build from here.

hope everyone is busy and feeling good
