Hey,

I have a Alesis/Groove Tubes AM40 mic that i bought second hand and its been working great, then it developed this low frequency rumble. I've attached a wav of the rumble and thought i'd post on here to see if anyone else has heard this type of rumble before, and can suggest anything. I've tried emailing Alesis/Groove Tubes but the email they refer me to doesn't work. Can anyone recommend a mic tech in the UK, or even the US?

Many thanks,
Dan

I don't know that particular mic but it could be a few things. This might sound silly but try a different mic stand or even holding the mic in your hand and listen for the rumble. I've actually had this happen where a mic was picking up a low frequency rumble from the mic stand. It could also be a capacitor going bad or an IC or transistor if there are any in the mic and/or power supply. If the mic is still under warranty I would send it to Groove Tubes. If not , maybe someone on this forum might know of a tech in the UK. You should also check for a Groove Tubes dealer in the UK. I know from personal experience that they will not give out schematics to anyone. So if you do find a tech there, make sure he has or can get schematics.
