If you have the routing capabilities that Totalmix provides, are re-amping boxes by Little Labs and Radial necessary and why? I'm a Hip Hop head that wants to experiement, I have enough I/Os, extra DI Boxes, and other things lying around... For mics I presume SM57 will do the trick (would the sm7b be a no-no)... Besides softsynths I'd be messing around with old Lo-Fi 70's samples... Not to sound corny, but I wanna do what the forum title says, tracking midi equiqment and vocals got old a long time ago! Help me get to the fun :poo: ...

Any tricks, tips, help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Jay

P.S. On another note, besides the mics mentioned above, I have an AK47 and a really cool space outside where I'd like to bang on :poo: and capture the sound of the room... I'm in the process of experiementing, so any entertainming ideas or considerations would be more than welcomed.

The Little Labs RED-EYE passively buffers line level signal [from your RME box] to instrument level signal, so if you plan to patch the outgoing signal into an amplifier head connected to a speaker cabinet, and then mike it up and listen back, that would be the way to achieve this goal. It all depends on what devices you are using. What's the setup consist of?

So in all actuallity I could connect the output of the RME to a passive DI to bring the signal back down to instrument level. My setup is basically Instruments > DI > GR/8801 > Mytek > Spdif/Adat RME (totalmix) > DAW > RME > D-Box... everything is pretty much 1/2 normalled to a couple patchbays...

I can *thoroughly* recommend the Radial JD-7. That's a bloody brilliant box. Great for DIing, signal splitting, reamping, creating new tones, saving guitarists from embarrassment... awesome. I love the thing. Any studio I work at has to have a JD-7. :)

Okay, it's a bit expensive but I'm sure they make more cost-effective models too.

Anyway, just my 10c.

Cheers,

You need a unit that has "reamp" ability, like the Radial that Sandy pointed out, or as I mentioned the Little Labs RED-EYE, which has two modes, one at a time. Its either in remap mode, or DI mode. Some guys use passive DI's backwards for reamping, but that is not the intended use of the device, so I will not suggest its correct.
