I have the RNC, RNLA, and the RNP. I'm continually impressed with them. Anybody have experiences with them, or creative techniques for using them?

I have two RNPs and two RNCs (one in the studio and one in my bass rig). I like them a lot. Good, clean gear that holds up well next to more expensive units.

I have two RNPs and two RNCs [...] I like them a lot.
We have 4 RNCs (in two rooms), an RNLA and an RNP. I find they're surprisingly good for what they cost. Best bang-per-buck ratio in the industry. :)
Okay... one question: Why do the RNCs even have a "super nice" button? I mean, who the heck is going to use it without super nice mode engaged? :p
Cheers,

I rarely use the Super Nice Mode on the one in my bass rig. :) And I always try it both ways on the one in the studio, just in case. It is a pretty useful button.
I have a pair of PBC-6A and they get a ton of use, even over the Distressors, 1176 and TG1 that are also available to me among others. I think these are sleeper comps that haven't gotten their due yet; they are definitely "when-you-pry-them-from-my-cold-dead-hands" gear for me.
I toured with Regina Spektor in 2005 with RNCs. They sound great. On her Yahama P250 they only worked with supernice off. Percussive material doesn't really work with it on.
In the beginning of the year we were doing a lot of little clubs, particularly in the UK I ran into a lot of Behringer crap. The RNCs were a life-saver.

I think we'd be hard pressed to find somebody who doesn't like FMR gear.
@sandyrb, I use the RNC with super nice mode on when recording acoustic guitars, but when tracking hip-hop vocals I leave it off... Singing: on, bass: off... etc.

I've gotten amazing bass results with the RNP going straight in (even without compression). It is great!

Anybody else have any experience with the PBC-6A? Just curious...

if you have ever worked in a budget room, you have tracked with an RNC. I had two, they were great for parallel sub groups.

I like the RNP a lot - has a sweet high end with a kind of soft character - not a ton of colour, but not straight up clean like the Ensemble's pres. After not using it as much lately, I realise that I actually miss is for some sources...
oh ya, I have had some great results on bass DI as well....

I have to admit that yes the RNCs are great.
I bought a bunch of them to "learn" compression (I mix OTB) without spending a load of cash (channel mults, group buss, basically everything, never worked for "me" on two buss).
I found that sticking a capacitor in the side chain works surprisingly good.
After learning with the RNCs I have purchased a MC77, API2500, TK BC1 and now a couple 527s.
Now that I have other compressors the RNCs are still great utility comps if needed.

My RNC is my first and only analog compressor, so I don't have a ton of experience with this stuff. But compared to the dozens of plugins I've used (some of which were very good, some of which sucked), this thing compares very favorably. I can always get an appropriate sound with it, and use it almost exclusively (when I'm going for convenience over sound quality, I use the DDMF NYComp). The RNC may not be the most exciting sound out there, but it never sounds bad.
I use Super Nice mode only about 10% of the time, since I do a lot of rock music and it's not so great with percussive material. But when Super Nice is called for (great on slow, smooth vocals), nothing sounds like it. It's very easy to control and everything between totally transparent and squashed/pumping can sound good!
For my modest home studio, I think I will get a PBC next (though I have pres to buy first), and hopefully a rack will become available with a spot for one RNC and one PBC.

Doesn't the PBC fit the same rack as the RNC and RNLA? I think it has the same footprint, so it should fit into the dual-RNC rack next to an RNC (although obviously the control labels would be wrong).

Yes, and yes....
The nomenclature will be wrong when mounting the PBC into the Funk Logic rack. I suggest the UTR rack shelf since you can fit three of them, and screw them into the tray.

Yeah, the labeling is what I'm referring to. Thanks for pointing out UTR, I hadn't seen that.
